Dear Rob,

It is with deep sadness that I write to you to offer my sympathy to you and your family, on the death of Hazel.

It is hard to assimilate that such a vital person should have endured such an illness and is now no longer with us.

Our friendship went back 38 years. At school Hazel was this zany, fun and very funny, carefree, warm person. She was naturally gifted and we were in many of the school sports teams and clubs together.

She was immensely important to me personally, as I indicated in an earlier letter. When I met up with her in subsequent years, I became aware of the deep well of kindness and gentleness which informed her being. I shall miss her very much.

These last few years must have been difficult for you all. I’m sure it must be a comfort that you were able to take care of Hazel and support her at home with all the family around.

This is inevitably a sad time, but you, me, Pat, Josh, Zoë and Hazel’s many friends will have countless happy memories to draw on. Weren’t we lucky to have known her?

Dear Rob, Josh and Zoë,

Thinking of you all today and remembering my dear friend Hazel. Yes far too young. Far too full of life. But since your visit, I’m with Zoë — I can sense her warm, smiling, encouraging spirit.

Much love to all.

Judy.

....and fond remembrance, Hazel, love Judy
