Jack Goldring, 1943 - 2009

Jack Goldring taught Hazel at ANU in the 1970s, and remembered her in July 2009, when we last spoke. I think he had a photographic memory. Jack was my first cousin once removed: his aunt was my grandmother, Marjory Marks, née Goldring, who died in childbirth in 1922. (The family always knew Jack as John.)

Australians who remember 1950s radio will recall the Quiz Kids on the Macquarie Network (2GB, 3AW, 4BH, 5DN, 6PR, etc), sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. Along with names now fading from public memory (such as Alana Conlan and Annette Cumine), Jack Goldring was on the panel of five under-16-year-olds who answered general-knowledge questions posed by the compere, Mister (John) Dease.
