10 May 1948 – 14 September 1998
I was very sad I was not able to attend Hazel’s funeral, both to say goodbye to her, and to offer what comfort and support I could to you, Josh, Zoë and Pat.
My memory of Hazel is of a sparkling, happy person, always ready to have a chat and a laugh, even in the face of adversity.
My father died when I was 17 and my younger brother just 9. If I can offer any thoughts for Josh and Zoë in the future, it would be to support you in your collection of memories about Hazel. It is important to talk with them about Hazel, to help them understand and come to terms with her death.
The future will be hard for the next little while, and I can only reiterate Sybille’s offer that you and your family are always welcome here, and that you are often in our thoughts.
Alan was a friend of Hazel’s and mine.
