Sydney Houses for Exchange

The premier Australian city of Sydney combines the best of cultured inner-city living with the wilderness of the Australian bush less than two hours west. We were a family of four who wished to find a house in Tuscany for exchange in May 1998. We offered a comfortable, stylish house on a peninsula ten minutes by ferry from the centre of Sydney, and a delightful mountain house two hours up in the Blue Mountains wilderness.

The house in Sydney is in the colourful suburb of Balmain, popular with writers, film-makers, and actors. Balmain is well furnished with cafes, pubs, bookshops, and restaurants; indeed, the house is within walking distance of Australia's best restaurant, the French-Japanese Tetsuya's.

The house has water views, three (or four) bedrooms, three bathrooms, a small garden overlooking White Bay, two sitting rooms and a dining area adjoining a central courtyard. It comes with dishwasher, clothes washer, television, stereo, and a piano.

The house in the Blue Mountains is set on nine acres of pristine bush with parrots, wallabies, and other wildlife, and panoramic escarpment views, shown below. Two-storeys tall, it has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, centrally ducted heating, as well as an open fireplace and verandahs on three sides. It is elegantly furnished, and has a piano and fine stereo system.

Use of one or two cars can be arranged.

We are waiting for the scanning of the mountain house. In the meantime here are two views:

and two views from the upstairs deck.
